During my engagement with multiple cruise ships visiting Timaru, I identified a noticeable gap in souvenir options available to passengers. In response, I embarked on a personal project aimed at addressing this deficiency. One of the ideas I conceptualized was to create a range of unique coloring pages along side a blurb of history and facts, tailored specifically for visitors, while also appealing to locals.

Timaru Colouring Book is a personal project aimed at addressing the lack of souvenir options for cruise ship passengers and other tourists visiting Timaru. This project seamlessly merges graphic design with digital illustration to create a unique and engaging keepsake that appeals to both tourists and locals.
Challenge
The challenge was twofold: first, to develop a product that was attractive and memorable for cruise ship passengers and visitors, and second, to ensure it resonated with local residents. The goal was to create a lightweight, easy-to-transport souvenir that reflected Timaru's unique culture and landmarks.
Approach
I began by conducting market research to understand the preferences of visitors and tourists and the types of souvenirs they typically purchase. Additionally, I gathered insights from locals about iconic landmarks, cultural symbols, and beloved aspects of Timaru that could be featured in the designs.
With this information, I embarked on the creative process of designing a range of coloring pages. I employed a combination of traditional layout design and digital illustration techniques to bring the colouring pages to life. The illustrations highlighted Timaru's notable landmarks, natural beauty, and cultural elements, ensuring they were detailed enough to be engaging but also simple enough to be accessible for most age groups.
To enhance the value of the souvenir, I included a paragraph of informative history and facts about the subject of each colouring page. This addition not only increases the quality of the souvenir but also provides users with an easy and enjoyable way to learn more about the city without having to do their own research.
The layout of the colouring pages was meticulously designed to incorporate user-friendly elements and aesthetic appeal. High-quality paper and printing methods were selected to ensure durability and an enjoyable coloring experience.
